10 Dresses that Elegant Women will Wear in 2022
Since their first appearance in the women’s wardrobe, dresses have become versatile pieces par excellence: feminine and light on occasions, enveloping and warm on others, and, why not, also seductive and daring. They are the secret weapon of those women who seek to experiment with fashion without sacrificing an inch of elegance. We still cannot forget that revenge dress worn by Lady Di in 1994, a black minidress by designer Christina Stambolian, who taught us that sensuality does not have to be at odds with sophistication.
Playing under this premise, 2022 arrives with a range of dresses that range from the reinterpretation of the classic little black dress to the return of an infallible combination: dresses over pants, and romantic variations of nightgowns. The stylistic possibilities are endless, the rest? That falls on the determined personality of the woman who wears it.
Dresses over pants
One of the hottest trends we saw during fashion week was this unexpected pairing that can be as casual or comfy as you like: dresses over pants. The Akris firm has appropriated this combination by giving it its own twist: transforming the apron that made them famous in 1922 into a dress with a simple and rigorous cut that will appeal to the most minimalist tastes.
Black mini dresses
The obligatory garment in the wardrobe of any woman who presumes to really be complete. A black dress is simply infallible and, throughout history, has been reinterpreted on numerous occasions, although it is still practically impossible to forget Coco Chanel’s little black dress. Nobody better to reinterpret this classic with a seductive look than designer Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent. This is a piece that will last you for years.
Midi day dresses
A great option to receive the warm days in 2022 will be to opt for an intermediate design: that is long enough to go to the office, you can combine it with a dress shirt as proposed by the Danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen and, at the same time, be short enough to make a romantic and casual look silver evening dress
Shirt dresses
Another great option to attend your meetings on a daily basis without sacrificing comfort is a classic white shirt. For Spring-Summer, this garment has increased sizes and becomes an oversize piece that will turn heads at the office. Plus, you can make it as formal as you want as we saw on the runway for Peter Do, who accessorized it with a simple silver bracelet.
Nightgown dresses
For some seasons we have seen how the nightgown has made a triumphant return to the catwalks. And that is the magic of fashion, the rules are there to be broken: what used to be at home, today we take it outside, and vice versa. Louis Vuitton reinvents this undergarment with a vision of romance: a lace dress with a loose fit and ruffles that you can wear over jeans.
Striped dresses
Black and white have formed an inseparable dumbbell for years and it does not seem that it will disappear. For the premiere of Euphoria’s second season, we saw Zendaya wear an iconic Valentino look, which was worn by supermodel Linda Evangelista in the 90s with this winning combination. Carolina Herrera’s firm also presented its own version of this trend, leaving the legs bare.
Dresses with knitted fabric
Open stitches, closed, with metallic threads. Gone are the days when knitted garments were only worn by our grandmothers. Nowadays, they have become true weapons of seduction that reveal as much skin as we want. Designer Alberta Ferretti knows this very well and she designed this dress with one of the trending colors for 2022: brown.
Two-in-one dresses
The ultra-tight dresses we saw revived from the 1990s are now found with cutouts and flowy sleeves, as we saw at Chloé. The creative director Gabriela Hearst designed a model with a boho spirit that captivated us and best of all, its conception is sustainable.
We saw it repeated on numerous occasions during the season, both on the Prada and Carolina Herrera catwalks and on the Courrèges catwalk. This last firm offered us a combination that could not be more perfect: a dress with an asymmetrical tail to match silver boots above the knee, another trend that is on the rise.
Tight dresses
Chances are you already have a similar shape in your wardrobe, but there’s never a bad time to rethink a silhouette that you already know works great with seasonal colors. Blue is a good idea to bring freshness at any time of the year, the first collection of Alaïa’s new creative director, Peter Muller, confirmed this for us.
